Fine quality Shetland wool |
Wool is an incredibly diverse product and each breed of wool has it’s own ideal use or function.
Traditionally used by Shetland brides to knit wedding shawls delicate enough to thread through their wedding ring, our award-winning Shetland wool is some of the finest in the country.
Our Shetland wool can be more comfortable to wear next to the skin - the itchiness people can experience with wearing wool comes from poor or coarser wool that contains ‘kemp’ (hairs) or has been treated with pesticides.
Shetland fleece grows in black, white, brown, fawn and grey. The micron count for our fleece ranges from 18-24 and we aim for 10-15 crimps per inch.

We have an experienced farmer, Mr John James, who hand clips our sheep each year. We choose to hand clip our flock to ensure an accurate cut and optimum fibre length for machine and hand spinning. Hand clipping also results in a good, strong yarn.
