The Burlees Pedigree Shetland Flock |
We breed pedigree Shetland Sheep, a rare, ancient breed, which have existed in the UK for over 4,500 years.
We learned about Shetlands when a friend asked if their flock could holiday on our farm. The flock stayed with us for six weeks. We fell in love with them and in 2010 we purchased our first pedigree Shetlands.
We feed our 100-strong flock on our naturally maintained meadows, and give certified organic feeds. We have begun the Conversion process which should lead to Organic Certification in 2019.
Our flock is registered with the Shetland Sheep Society.

We sell breeding stock to established breeders as well as novices. We provide practical guidance to novices on how to choose and care for their starter flock.
We bought our first flock of pedigree Shetlands in 2010. Soon after, we discovered a whole world of fine wool and exceptional show standard breeding. We began traipsing after the best breeders, buying premium, award-winning stock to add to our pedigree flock.
It has been our great pride and joy to work to retain and enhance the pedigree of our beautiful, award-winning Shetlands.
Our flock has gained a strong reputation for producing luxurious, fine wool. One of our fleece received particularly high praise from judges at the 2016 Great Yorkshire Show, with one judge commenting, “the only wool you see finer than this comes from Australian merinos.”
